12/11/2020 0 Comments Week 11 The final trend that we tested was to try and bake a cake without using a recipe. This is not super big trend on Tik Tok, but we saw it on a couple videos and it looked really fun so we decided to try and do it.
We didn't go out and buy ingredients and instead we just decided to use whatever we could find in Sarah West's kitchen. We actually ended up having all of the ingredients that we needed. We started by mixing all of the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, and baking soda) in a bowl. Then we mixed in milk, melted butter, and vanilla. We had to completely guess on how much of each thing to put in. Once we got it all mixed together, it wasn't the right consistency at all. It wasn't runny enough(it felt like cookie dough) so we just added more milk and hoped that would work. We also decided to make it a s'mores cake, since our hot chocolate bombs hadn't worked out and we had all of the ingredients for that(marshmallows, graham crackers, and melted chocolate). So, we mixed in some crushed up graham crackers into the cake. We finally finished mixing everything together and we put it in a pan and into the oven. We didn't know how long to bake it for, so we just left the oven light on and checked it about every five minutes. After about 20 minutes, it looked done so we took it out and tested it with a knife. It wasn't runny anymore, so we took it out and let it cool. Once it had cooled, we put the melted chocolate, marshmallows and more crushed graham crackers on top. Then we realized that we had forgotten to grease the pan. We tried cutting a piece out and it surprisingly came out good and it didn't matter that we forgot to put grease. We all tried the cake at the same time and it turned out to be really good. It was just a little dry(we should've added more milk since we had put in the graham crackers). Overall this was probably the best thing that we've made for this project.

12/9/2020 0 Comments Week 10 The next thing that we did was try to make Sarah West's room more "trendy". A lot of people on Tik Tok have certain things in their rooms that make it look more aesthetically pleasing. This was definitely the most expensive trend that we've done because it costed a lot of money to buy all of the things for the room.
The first thing that we did was put up LED lights. We struggled a lot with putting this up because you had to perfectly line them up with the line of the ceiling so it wouldn't look uneven. It was also a struggle because we had finally gotten all of the lights put up and then none of them would turn on and we couldn't figure out what the problem was. After we finally decided to read the instructions, we found that we had connected all of them wrong and that we had to take all of them down and reattach them to each other. Despite all of that, we finally got all of the LED lights put up and the other things were really easy to do. We bought a lightning bolt neon sign to make the room even more aesthetic. We also put up a moon and stars crystal decoration above her bed that Megan got her for her birthday. Lastly, we went to the thrift store downtown and bought old records to put above her doors. 11/22/2020 0 Comments Week 9The first trend we tried for the month of December was to make these hot chocolate bombs that are really popular on Tik Tok right now. To make the hot chocolate bombs, you are supposed to put melted chocolate in a circle mold and let it freeze in that shape. Then, once they're frozen, you are supposed to put hot chocolate powder and marshmallows in the chocolate molds and put one of the molds on top of another, to make a sphere. Then you put the "bombs" in a hot cup of milk to make hot chocolate. We had a lot of issues with this one. Our first issue was that Makayla tried to buy the circle molds at Walmart, but they were sold out so she ordered them on the Walmart website and they never arrived to her house. So, we had to use a paint palette to make the circles, which didn't work. We melted chocolate chips in the microwave, then put them in the circles of the paint palette and then put the paint palettes in the freezer. We waited 30 minutes then got them out of the freezer. We tried to get the chocolate out of the molds, and it was really hard to get them out. The chocolate just broke up into pieces. This trend was definitely a fail.
11/15/2020 0 Comments Week 8 This week we began working on our final project, which is to make a video of all the things that we've done. We started out by looking at different editing apps and deciding which one would be the easiest to use because none of us are really good at editing, which we are also working on. We tested apps like Video Star and Filmmaker, but we decided that the easiest one to use was iMovie. We've all used iMovie before for things other school projects and we all used to make iMovie trailers when we were younger.
Even though we all have experience using iMovie, we have never made a video as long as the one we are planning to make for this project, so we are still going to need to practice using the app some more. Also, as I said in the last blog post, we need to start taking more videos of the things we are doing so that we can make the best video for our final project that we can. 11/8/2020 0 Comments Week 6 and 7 These past couple weeks, we have been really struggling to find new trends that we can do. We also haven't had much time to meet up and do any trends. However, we have taken the genius hour time each week to plan our next trends and to work towards our end goal, which was to make a video of all the things we did. We already have some fun Christmas trends planned that we are really excited to do.
A couple weeks ago in class, Mr. Barker asked us if we felt that we were halfway towards our end goal, since we are halfway through the project. None of us even realized that the project was already halfway though and it made us want to take a look at how much footage we've gotten for the video. At the beginning of this project, we said our end goal was to make a video of all the trends that we'd done. Looking at our footage, we realized that we haven't been taking nearly enough videos to make a good length video. In order to be able to reach our final goal, we will definitely be taking more videos from now on. We are going to take even more videos than we think we need because we've realized it's better to have too many videos to choose from than to not have enough at all. We have also taken some time to work on our video editing skills so that we can make our final project as good as we possibly can. We worked using video editing apps such as iMovie and Video Star. We still aren't sure which app we are going to use to make our final project, because we want to use whichever one is easiest. 10/30/2020 2 Comments Week 5 The next trend we tried was to make a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte. We wanted to try to learn how to make it ourselves instead of spending a ton of money buying them from Starbucks. So we looked up a recipe online and we found that the actual company Starbucks had posted their recipe so it was perfect for what we were trying to do.
The recipe called for a bunch of spices and stuff that we didn't have, so we first went to the grocery store to buy some things. The recipe also called for the special Starbucks ground coffee, but we decided that it wouldn't make much of a difference to just use the coffee we had at home. So, we bought all the stuff and went home to make it. First we had to put the sugar and the water in a saucepan and dissolve the sugar, after the sugar was dissolved we had to put in all the other spices and let it simmer for 20 minutes. This is the part where we messed up. I don't really know what went wrong but something for sure did because after the 20 minutes was over the stuff in the saucepan looked absolutely disgusting and didn't even look edible. After that we decided it would probably still taste good, so we brewed some coffee and put it in the fridge for it to cool a little but, because we wanted it to be cold when we drank it. Then we waited about 30 minutes and we combined the coffee with the spice mixture we made. It was really gross. I don't think we waited long enough for the coffee to get fully cold so it was like this gross lukewarm temperature and the spice mixture was also hot so it just made the coffee warmer. All around it was really gross and we ended up dumping the whole thing out. We would all definitely recommend that you just spend the 3 or 4 dollars it takes at actual Starbucks to buy a Pumpkin Spice Latte instead of trying to make one yourself. 10/20/2020 0 Comments Week 4The trend that we did this week is one that is more specific to Tik Tok. There has been a trend going around where people dress up like ghosts and do a photo shoot. So, we decided to try it. We all met up at Sarah West's house and got white sheets. We also found some sunglasses to make the ghosts costumes more decorated. A lot of versions of the trend that we've seen include the people actually cutting holes in their sheets for eyes. We decided not to do that because we didn't want to waste a perfectly good sheet just for a trend. So, we decided that sunglasses would be the better option to make the eyes more apparent. Then, we drove to the back of Sarah West's neighborhood and took pictures. At first we didn't really know what poses to do or anything, so we went to look at the Tik Toks we had seen for some guidance. We matched some of the poses that the original creators of the trend had done and we also tried to get some shots of us in motion, so we ran and danced around.
The final pictures that we got weren't as aesthetically pleasing as the ones that we had seen on Tik Tok. However, some pictures turned out pretty cool, considering we didn't go all out do things like buy more props for our ghosts to have or go to a cool location to take them. 10/9/2020 0 Comments Week 3This week it was harder to find trends because there has not been many lately. So, we decided to start doing trendy things instead for the month or season that we are in. So, for the first trend we wanted to carve pumpkins. First, we went to Lowe's and picked out the pumpkins that we wanted to carve. We all found images online that we wanted to recreate and we all met on Friday night to do it. We started taking out the insides and it was a pretty gross feeling on our hands. Makayla finished first and she started carving her's to look like Mike Wasowski. Megan and Sarah West took longer to scrape out the insides because at first they were trying to make it perfect, but soon realized that it was taking too long. So, then they started carving too. Megan carved her's to look like a cat and Sarah West carved hers as a face with star eyes.
This whole process was overall really fun, but it took a lot longer than we expected. It took us about two hours total to finish. This trend still was a success though because we've all done this before and we all enjoy using our creativity. 10/4/2020 0 Comments Week 2This week, none of us really had time to be able to meet up and do some trends. Also we had already done the three trends for the month of September that we had planned on. Since we didn't complete any new trends, we decided to take another look at the different components of our project and to see if we wanted to change anything.
At the beginning, we planned on meeting up once a month and doing three trends all at once, then writing about it for that week. We now realize that that may be a problem because we won't have anything to write about for the weeks in between. So now we are going to try and do one trend at a time in an effort to spread out the process. We also only planned on doing Tik Tok trends, but now that is showing to be a problem. Lately there haven't been many new trends on Tik Tok at all and there's always the rumors that the app is going to be taken down soon. So, we decided to try and do any trend that we find on any social media platform instead so that way we can have more options of things to do. 9/23/2020 0 Comments Week 1Over the weekend, we tried to do the first three trends. The first one that we wanted to do was the one where you dress up like boys and go to Walmart. In our opinion, this trend wasn't as fun as it looked on the video. Everyone in the store could obviously tell we were girls and didn't care about it at all. Then when we got home, we went tried to make the Chick-Fil-A pizza. We put chicken nuggets, fries, macaroni, and shredded cheese all together and then cooked it in a tortilla. It was really good, but we all agreed we would rather have just eaten it separate. For the last trend, we tried the bell peppers and cream cheese. Megan liked it, but Makayla and Sarah West didn't. We probably just didn't like it because we don't really like peppers in the first place.
